Anne Burrell

Anne W. Burrell, an American television chef and the former Institute of Culinary Education instructor she is a popular TV host. She is the host of The Food Network show Secrets of a Restaurant Chef and co-host of Worst Cooks in America. Anne Burrell, a Food Network star with her trademark spikey blonde hair and exuberant personality, shares easy techniques to master and reduces intimidation of restaurants dishes in her series Secrets of a Restaurant. Chef Burrell also worked at several of the city's most prestigious restaurants, has been studying Italian food, its culture and traditions as well as was a contestant on Food Network's Iron Chef America. Growing up in the Upstate New York area, Chef Burrell discovered a love of cooking and food at a young age. The Culinary Institute of America sparked her interest in restaurant management after she earned an English/Communications diploma at Canisius College Buffalo NY. She states "I was a huge Culinary Institute of America student. I was awed by every moment." It was impossible to take enough pleasure from it. After graduation, Burrell spent one year in Italy studying in the Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners and worked in the Umbrian restaurant La Taverna del Lupo as well as Tuscany's La Bottega del 30, a Michelin-starred restaurant. While in Italy she gained an appreciation for and knowledge of Italian cuisine and its culture. This will have a significant impact on how Burrell cooks. Burrell participates on the Garden of Dreams Foundation Advisory Board that helps brighten the lives of struggling children. She also is a Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Celebrity Advocate where she raises awareness about the condition of children with diabetes. She talks about her culinary love and imparts her knowledge of the culinary world, as she regularly travels throughout the US in various roles such as speakers and mentors. Anne always felt fortunate that she was able to share her passion of her life, and her passion for cooking, with people around the world.
